Jan van Ruusbroec, Van den geesteliken tabernakel (fragment)

Around the middle of the 14th century, the great Brabant mystic Jan van Ruusbroec (1293-1381) wrote his most comprehensive treatise, Van den Geesteliken Tabernacle. This fragment was found in a 16th-century rent book in the archives of Averbode Abbey. What does it reveal about the original manuscript? According to researchers, it is part of a series of small-format manuscripts on parchment from the second half of the 14th century. This makes it one of the earliest surviving copies of Ruusbroec’s text, which makes it very important. The fragment consists of one parchment bifolio and contains fragments of two chapters.
