Boendale and Cotthem, Brabantsche Yeesten

Between 1316 and 1350, Antwerp city clerk Jan van Boendale (c. 1280-c. 1351) wrote an extensive history of the Duchy of Brabant, to which the city belonged. After van Boendale’s death, Wein van Cotthem continued his work. This manuscript from the second half of the 15th century deviates strongly from the standard version; the chronicle no longer starts with Pepin van Landen, the founder of the Carolingian dynasty, but with the Biblical Noah. The text also contains excerpts from another chronicle by Hennen van Merchtenen (1360-after 1415). [Flandrica]
